Dare to Dresden Blog Hop

I have a love of Dresden, but not only the quilt block, but the city too.  In 2003, I spent some time touring Europe by myself and spent about 3 days exploring Dresden, Germany.  I have some very fond memories of my time there.  Now that I have started on this adventure we call quilting, I have fallen for the dresden quilt block.  When I saw the Dare to Dresden blog hop, I just had to participate. So today is day four of the Dare to Dresden Blog Hop hosted by Christine at Quilt Monster Closet!

My inspiration came from a small table topper that my good friend Denise made me last year.  It's currently, on my dining room table under a fall flower arrangement I have in an antique pitcher.  I just love the colors and the size is perfect. I have really enjoyed it this winter.

The last two weeks, I have been traveling for work to some very cold environments compared to what we have here in Southern California.   First I was in Montreux, Switzerland and then in New York City, where the temperatures were below 35 degrees (F).    This made me long for spring time and working in my garden.

To make this long story short, I decided to try my hand at making a dresden table topper for spring time to put on my dining room table.  I also am trying to stick with my New Year's resolution to use up things that I have and not to add so much this year.I used up some scraps I had left over from making an apron for a secret someone!

So I made this table topper out of a 8" dresden pattern.  I combined two of my favorite things - dresdens and prairie points!

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it.

Shaking and a Grovin'

Over the weekend, the hubs and I attend the Grand Cru event.  It's a local charity event put on by Legal Aide.  There were over 1,000 wines tasted and some wonderful food from local restaurants and market.  We had a really nice evening at the downtown park, sipping some amazing wines.

Then early the next morning we headed over to the antique flea market, where I added not one, but two new pottery pitchers to my collection. The hubs was not thrilled.  However, this was the most fun thing I saw all day. It's a spider man pogo stick..hahahaha

I took a day off from work this week and this is pretty much what I did all day.

I'm playing swappy goodness with the girls again, this time it's Dresdens (YEAH) made out of this.

Someday when I have loads of spare time, I plan on sewing something with this stack of fat quarters.  Oh and the hubs has grounded me. So I should be home a lot more so maybe I can get caught up on my sewing.

Friday Night Sew In

Friday Night Sew In

So last night I was to actually sit down at my sewing machine and do a little bit of sewing.  I don't know if you remember, but a while back my friend Karen at SewMuch2Luv and I went to the quilt show and we both bought a 6" Dresden pattern.  Well, I got to cutting and sewing with it last night.  Boy is it fun! These little Dresden plates are so dang cute!

Here the blades are all tucked in the their box.

Here is a blade on the cutting mat so you can see how small it is.

The first finished Dresden. (hey where did that wayward thread come from?)

And here at the 3 I was able to finish last night.
